Week 28 – Clinical – Woodhull Hospital

Date: 7/13/18                            Rotation: Clinical           Location: Woodhull Hospital

Activities / Assignments:

  • New Employee Orientation
  • Departmental Orientation

Comments / Thoughts / What You Learned / Challenges: New employee orientation was very well organized and I learned a lot about how the hospital runs, safety measures, HIPAA, customer service, and many more things (listed in the orientation schedule below). The third day was focused on how to interact with patients and other staff members, and I thought it was really interesting as well as helpful. Some things discussed included introducing yourself to the patient and learning their name, speaking to them in their preferred language, and the proper way to deal with patient complaints or problems.

Departmental orientation focused on the policies and procedures for the food and nutrition department. It included the kitchen and the dietitians. I felt like even though I had already learned a lot of the information provided, it was still beneficial and a really good refresher for things like food safety guidelines. My supervisor also reviewed my schedule with me as well as my responsibilities as an intern.
