  • Edited content for the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute website
  • Edited content for the “CUNY Urban Policy Institute Grant CRM Tracker” document
  • Ground Truthing for evaluation of the intervention called “Communities for Healthy Food”

Comments / Thoughts / What You Learned / Challenges:

I worked on the “Food Countermarketing” pages of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute website. This involved adding, editing, and removing content, as well as formatting.

I also helped with the content for the “CUNY Urban Policy Institute Grant CRM Tracker” document. I added links to the proposals for the different grants, and I also added information for any funders not already included. This involved doing research on their mission, and what their grant was intended for.

For the evaluation of the Communities for Healthy Food intervention, I performed ground truthing to help them complete the picture of the food environment in neighborhoods (sites). The ground truthing I did helped with the Food Outlet Count portion of the food environment assessment. What it entailed was taking the list of food outlets in the neighborhood “hot spot” (any supermarket/grocery store, bodega, fruit and vegetable market, butcher/fish market, specialty/organic/natural market, farmers markets/youth markets, mobile produce vendors/GreenCart, farm shares/food box/CSA, Other [like liquor store, convenience store] and finally Food pantries out a path of the neighborhood “hot spot”), and comparing it with what I saw when I went. I had to use a map to determine the best route to go, and then I spent the day walking the route and adding any food outlets not on the list, removing ones that were no longer there, and modifying any that had changed their name.
