  • Read “The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute Guide to Food Governance in New York City”
  • Applicant spreadsheet for Food Security Advocacy Project
  • Research for sugar-sweetened beverage round table event
  • Compiled biographies for select individuals from various studies
  • Compiled a list of research projects for select individuals
  • Compiled a list of summaries of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute from various studies

Comments / Thoughts / What You Learned / Challenges: Met with Craig to discuss what kind of work the institute is involved in, his role in the institute and his involvement in specific projects, and the kind of work I would be doing in the coming weeks. Before getting started, I was instructed to read “The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute Guide to Food Governance in New York City” in order to get a better understanding of the different levels of government, their roles in food policy and food governance, how the institute can affect change, and how the community is involved in food policy and food governance.

Another assignment was to fill in an Excel Spreadsheet with applicant information for a Food Security Advocacy Project. I used their responses to the application questions to fill in the different categories in the spreadsheet.

I also helped with research for the upcoming Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Round Table event. I compiled a list of the different sugary drink campaigns in New York City. For each campaign, I included any ads or images I could find that were used in the campaign, the year of the campaign, and a brief description of what the campaign did/what it was trying to accomplish. I did the same thing for campaigns outside of New York City. In addition to the campaigns, I also made a list of the different policies related to sugar-sweetened beverages world-wide, beginning in 1980. It was extremely challenging finding images for every single campaign and policy.
