Comments / Thoughts / What You Learned / Challenges: This week I continued observing the procedures at the Hudson Guild Senior Center. I became more comfortable and familiar with everything, and I began helping with placing the food orders, receiving the deliveries, and storing the food properly.

I also conducted a tray waste audit Monday and Tuesday, and I was really happy with how smoothly everything went. I had to move the location of the garbage in order to observe what was being given and what was being thrown away simultaneously. The first day I had to keep making an announcement throughout breakfast and lunch to remind them, but the second day everyone did it automatically.

I also went to the Bellevue Hospital Day Care Center site this week. I took the opportunity to observe their food production. I also worked with the head of the day care center on the food production records. We both had some questions, so we worked together to figure out what needed to be changed/included moving forward, and I made a lot of progress on the production records. They did become easier once I clarified some things with the director, so it did start coming together more quickly afterwards. I also began working on a nutrition pamphlet to hand out to the parents at the day care center. They are required to do a monthly nutrition lesson, so I was asked to create a pamphlet, and next week I will set up a booth so that I can give a mini nutrition lesson to parents as they pick up their children at the end of the day and give them the pamphlet to bring home. I’m looking forward to this challenge, because I’ll have to be able to give a lesson one-on-one, but also adjust what I’m talking about if another parent arrives in the middle of another parents’ lesson.
